SETTING THE TONE FOR A TRANSITIONAL DINNER PARTY

I’ve got a new home fragrance crush that’s perfect for creating ambience between summer and autumn

I’ve recently designed a new studio space, and as well as being a great place to work, it’s also become a favourite space to host dinner parties. I put a huge new wood table in here, and it’s the perfect size for sitting a crowd comfortably - much more comfortably than my dinner table at home.

A larger table also means more space to dress a table properly, including more little details that really set the tone. And of course, fragrance for the space is one of the most important of these details.

My latest discovery might be one of WoodWick’s autumn new launches, but it’s pretty timeless - I can see this easily becoming one of my new favourites. Even before I’d lit the candles in this dinner party set-up pre my guests arriving, there was a beautifully perfumed scent in the air from their new fragrance Evening Luxe, and it only got better once I’d actually lit them.

Evening Luxe is a Trilogy candle, which means it has three layers of fragrance, which shift and melt together as the candle burns. The top layer - this deep, rich blue - is WoodWick’s Hinoki Dahlia, with undertones of smoky wood, plum and the more opulent floral scent of dahlia. This transitions into Lavender Spa - a subtler take on lavender fragrance, which can sometimes be a little overwhelming at full strength. It ends on White Teak - a crisp finish with woody undertones like sandalwood and cedar.

As well as the fragrance and the atmospheric crackle, this Trilogy candle gave me a bit of a color palette to play off to take this table set-up into a transitional, summer to autumn feel. A neutral backdrop is always my go-to, but a few branches cut from the late-summer Smoke Bush bring purplish leaves to the scheme that help to tie the scheme together.
