ANOTHER NEUTRAL NURSERY SCHEME

We’ve got a new niece incoming, this time on Hugh’s side of the family, so we set about making over a spare bedroom into a beaut new nursery for her.

[This post was created in collaboration with COAT Paints, who provided the paint for the makeover. Other items were contributed as part of PR partnerships, all marked with AD]

You might remember last year I did a neutral nursery makeover project for my sister - and I’ve got to say, I really enjoyed it. My style of interiors is a little more serious than some, so it’s great to be able to explore this different side of designing a space and have a lot of fun with it.

Well, we’re becoming uncles for a second time later this year, so a couple of weeks ago we did a weekend trip to the in-laws to re-work their spare room into a nursery too. Once again, we’re kind of on the same page design-wise, but they had a little bit of a different brief from my sister, so this nursery has it’s own spirit.

I did however convince them to do the wall panelling again. I think it’s such a good idea for a child’s room, as you can repaint it regularly (without having to paint every wall each time) to give a space a different feel, theme, vibe etc.

Here’s the before pics!

The brief was light, bright and neutral, keeping the existing wardrobe and chest of drawers, and keeping the floorboards that have been painstakingly restored.

When it came to a point of inspiration, I always like to build a scheme on at least one thing the homeowner absolutely loves, and our parents-to-be picked something super fun as a starting point for our scheme… this woolly mammoth rocker from Scandiborn [AD].

This gave us a few things to add to our scheme. 1. the colour of this is actually beaut - a taupe-grey that plays up the warm tones in this south-facing room. 2. it’s easy to get a bit carried away in a nursery with a mix of motifs - with our rocking mammoth in tow, I’ve got this prehistoric base for the start of our styling.

I managed to find the perfect shade from COAT Paints to match our mammoth - it’s called Sunday Soul, a warmish brown grey.

Here’s our design scheme for the space…

Like any nursery, this space has got to work quite hard. We couldn’t lose any of the storage, but it was pretty essential to get a chair in there. There might not have been a perfect spot for one layout wise, but popping it in front of the window seemed to make the most sense overall.

We had some help from some great brands to make this come together, including all paint from COAT, so let’s get into the finished room and I’ll let you know where everything is from.

As I mentioned earlier, the colour on the panelling and the woodwork is COAT’s Sunday Soul, paired with the walls in Screenshot, my go-to off-white shade. The beautiful Liewood canopy is from Scandiborn [ad], as was the baby gym which Hugh crocheted some cute little hanging clouds for. The sandy-coloured throw is from Cam Cam Copenhagen [ad] and the little hanging basket from Oy Oy Living [ad].

Their cot is from Silver Cross and the mobile was a cheeky Amazon order.

This pretty felt wall hanging was a buy from Etsy seller the Tsubaki, and I bought this small MDF rainbow from a website and painted it in my choice of colours, but the quality of this wasn’t the best when it arrived, so I won’t recommend buying from there! The new hearth tiles are Ecru Zellige tiles from Otto Tiles [ad] which are a slightly more stylish finish to the fireplace.

This gorgeous bouclé-ish lounge chair is the Bailey accent chair from Cult [ad], which we got with a matching Baltimore footstool (very important for reclining on those late night feeds) that can also act as a side table to keep things handy.

These cute dinosaurs came in a pack of three from Scandiborn [ad] and the boucle cloud cushions were from Etsy seller Edie and Joe.

Mum and dad were very pleased with the new space, and I really loved pulling this together for them.
