5 DIY WALL ART IDEAS I'VE MADE FOR MY OWN HOME

If, like me, you struggle to find art you like within your budget, why not try one of these five DIY artwork ideas to make your own from scratch?

My general philosophy when it comes to interiors is if you can’t find something you like, have a go at making it yourself. Let’s face it - good art is very expensive, and while I very much plan to collect some beautiful pieces of art over time, it’s not where my money is going right now. But that doesn’t mean I should have empty walls now does it!

I like prints, but there’s something about the texture a three-dimensional canvas-style art brings to a room that ups the feeling of luxe, even if it turns out that art is made from scraps of leftover MDF or a tablecloth…

I’ve made a few different pieces of art for my home now, so I thought I’d share a little gallery of them on the blog. I’ve got full tutorials on my Instagram highlights, but I’ll probably slowly upload them on here too. Give me a shout in the comments if there’s one you want more urgently than the rest!

3D MDF DIY WALL ART IDEA

This wall art was based on a design I spotted on Instagram, but with my own shapes. The base is MDF on top of a canvas, and different depths of MDF cut out with a jigsaw and stuck on top. Most of these DIY artworks have a floating frame - there’s a tutorial on my Instagram under each DIY wall art idea.

RANDOM SHAPE DIY WALL ART IDEA

To save time on this DIY project, I bought four budget canvases from The Range for about £4 each that had an integrated floating frame. I painted over them, before sticking my cut and sanded MDF shapes.

MINI DIY ARTWORK IDEA

Tiny artwork is great for styling shelves when you’ve already met your vase and candle quota, but are quite hard to find. This mini artwork can be made in a couple of hours and painted in the colour of your choice.

SIMPLE RELIEF DIY WALL ART IDEA

It may look simple, but this white cut out wall art was inspired by a piece in our room when we stayed at Kelly Wearstler’s Proper Hotel, and if it’s good enough for Kelly, it’s good enough for me.

PATCHWORK DIY WALL ART IDEA

This wall art required a little more work than cutting MDF and sticking it down. With this wall art, I sewed together two pieces of coloured linen roughly, before stretching over a DIY canvas frame, before making a floating frame from oak strips.

So what do you think of my DIY art collection? Let me know which is your favourite, and remember you can find all the tutorials for these over on my Instagram Story highlights.
