HOW TO SCENT YOUR NEW YEAR’S EVE

I’m keeping it super low-key this New Year’s but that doesn’t mean special touches, like a few of my favourite WoodWick® fragrances, are going to get forgotten

[This blog post has been created in collaboration with WoodWick® Candles]

There was once upon a time a New Year’s Eve would automatically mean a night out, and while I’m not saying my partying days are behind me, for New Year’s in particular, I’m definitely a convert to an evening in. Having friends over for food and drink has been the order of the day for the last few years at least.

It’s another occasion where I take joy in creating little touches that make the day (or night in this case) feel special, whether that’s an unusual meal, a new cocktail to try, or just setting the perfect ambience. That’s where scent comes in.

Burning a candle is a no-brainer for instant atmosphere, but choosing the right fragrance should be high on your agenda. Here’s what I’m using for the perfect NYE ambience this year.

Black Peppercorn is an ideal fragrance to set the scene for festive entertaining. It has a subtler fragrance than some of the other candles by WoodWick, but this makes it the perfect easy-going choice, bringing soft, natural earthy scents to your home. It’s a great choice to start a New Year’s Eve, before you embrace some headier fragrances as the night goes on.

Warm Wool is a WoodWick® fragrance I keep coming back to. It’s a little bit fresher than my other selections for New Year’s with top and mid notes of wild flowers and fruits, while the base notes of richer sandalwood and patchouli keep it feeling grown-up and still perfect for evening. It’s the sort of fragrance that’s the perfect backdrop for dining - not overpowering, but definitely bringing an evocative fragrance to a table setting.

Fireside is my perfect evening fragrance, especially in winter. It’s super fragrant and fills a room beautifully. Smoky and rich, it’s definitely my choice for hunkering down for the evening to enjoy a few cocktails with, and it means I don’t have to try and tend to the fire all night for that atmospheric aroma I love.
